Doctoral Researcher

The Human Brown Fat Metabolism Research Group at the Turku PET Centre is seeking a fixed-term Doctoral Researcher. The research focuses on investigating the role of signalling molecules that may influence the metabolism of brown fat in health and metabolic diseases. The chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting translational and clinical research studies using advanced medical imaging methods. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to explore personal research ideas, engage in other compelling side projects, undertake international research visits, and benefit from access to unique datasets, providing excellent prospects for advancing their research career.

The position is fixed-term, starting as soon as possible or based on mutual agreement. Initially, the contract will be offered for one year with the strong possibility of an extension for an additional year. The doctoral researcher will be encouraged to seek funding from the graduate school and funding agencies.

The suitable candidate has the following:

  • Licentiate in medicine, or Master's degree in biomedicine, biomedical imaging, biochemistry, drug development, or a closely related field;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and English language skills;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team;

In addition, the following will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience working in a clinical environment
  • Experience with in-vitro adipocyte cell cultures
  • Finnish language skills

In addition, when acquiring a doctoral degree, doctoral researchers are required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.  

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a doctoral researcher, the salary will be in the beginning of the employment around 2400-2600 euros/month, when working full-time. The amount of the salary is defined when the employment contract is prepared and is influenced by previous experience and skills.

A six (6) month trial period applies to the position.
