As an Information Service Trainee, your key goals are to make information work for science by ensuring smooth access not only to science and technology information but also to business information, and support research information management processes such as metadata validation and output tracking and empower researchers through training and guidance on effective use of resources.
In this Information Service Trainee role, you will play an essential part in ensuring VTT researchers have the information and tools they need to address pressing issues in sustainability, health, and emerging technologies.
Our eLibrary and Tools team is part of VTT Business Intelligence under Strategy. We provide the foundation for informed decisions and collaborative research, helping transform scientific knowledge into real-world solutions.
What would your responsibilities include?
- Ensure seamless access to publications and databases with electronic research management systems.
- Develop and deliver training sessions to empower researchers in using information resources effectively.
- Gain hands-on experience with systems like CRIS and tools for research information management, metadata creation, and research output validation.
- Manage information on AI usage policies from publishers.
This traineeship provides you with a unique opportunity to:
- Deepen your understanding of research information management and publishing processes.

- Contribute to open science initiatives and gain insight into how your work directly supports groundbreaking research.
Who we are looking for?
We expect you to have completed at least three years of Bachelor’s or Master’s studies in Information Science, Library and Information Studies, Knowledge Management, or a related field. Familiarity with academic publishing, metadata management, or research workflows is considered an asset. The ideal candidate has:
- Basic understanding of research processes, scientific publications, and metadata.
- Strong skills in information retrieval and information literacy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Fluency in Finnish and/or English. Other languages are an advantage.

All VTT Summer of Changemakers traineeships are paid, and the salary is determined based on study credits: for Master's students the monthly salary is between 2650€ and 2850€, and for Bachelor's students the monthly salary is between 2150€ and 2450€. The typical duration of traineeships is between 3 and 6 months, with start dates usually falling between March and June, however the length and the exact starting date can be discussed with the hiring team.
