VTT Summer of Changemakers: Research Trainee, Printed electronics processing

Do you want to start changing the world for the better next summer? Are you all about science and technology? Would you like to develop your skills and use them to tackle the greatest challenges of our time? VTT might be just the place for you. Apply now for VTT Summer of Changemakers 2022 traineeships. Together, we can turn these challenges into a hopeful future.

VTT is one of the leading applied research organisations in Europe. What unites us are curiosity, a passion for learning and a purpose: to solve the biggest challenges of our time and turn them into sustainable growth and well-being. Our cross-disciplinary community of over 2000 brilliant minds from 48 different nationalities is focused on creating impact through science-based innovation. Now, we are looking for passionate changemakers – you – to join us as summer trainees.

Do you want to be our next Research Trainee in our Printed electronics processing team? Join us - and let’s make science work for hope next summer!

As a Research Trainee, you join the Printed electronics processing team. We are responsible for the daily operation of VTT’s Printocent Pilot Factory. In this position, you will have an essential role in the development of roll-to-roll manufacturing methods, such as screen printing, component assembly, die-cutting, lamination, robotics, and overmolding, in printed electronics.

What your responsibilities as a Research Trainee would include?

First, you would learn how to work in Printocent Pilot Factory, where we are manufacturing printed electronics and diagnostics components, flexible electronics, and plastic- and hybrid-integrated systems. In addition, you will gain understanding during your hands-on daily work related to printed solar cells, lighting solutions, printed transistors, printed sensors and indicators, printed power sources, as well as flexible backplane circuit boards with conductors and passives. After your summer traineeship, there are likely possibilities to continue the work. There are also possibilities to combine the position with writing a master's thesis on the topic. Let us know if that is relevant to you and we can discuss the details in the interview.
