Senior Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry and Circular Economy

The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, is seeking a Senior Lecturer for a permanent position starting on January 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The senior lecturer's responsibilities include research and teaching tasks related to their own field of research.

Duties include basic, subject-specific, and advanced-level teaching. In addition, the duties include supervision of laboratory work, bachelor's and master's theses, and doctoral researchers. The position also involves active participation in the development of teaching and departmental tasks.

The person selected for the position is expected to conduct internationally high-level research. We are primarily looking for a person whose research focuses on inorganic analytics and the circular economy, particularly metal recovery and the isolation of recovered materials. The duties are closely linked to the Department of Chemistry's circular economy research activities, and the research is conducted in collaboration with industry partners. The research work can be carried out either in your own research group or as part of an existing research group.

Who we are looking for

Applicants are required to have experience and proven evidence in both chemistry teaching and internationally high-level research. Senior lecturers are required to have good teaching skills. Pedagogical training and proven evidence in teaching development are considered an advantage.

The position requires the selected candidate to have a strong knowledge of metal analysis and metal recovery, as well as a proven ability to conduct and publish scientific research. The successful applicant will have expertise in commonly used equipment techniques in metal analysis (ICP-OES and ICP-MS) as well as in metal recovery research and knowledge of various recovery methods. Demonstrated experience in project management, collaboration, and networking with industry is considered an advantage.

The duties and qualification requirements of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Good proficiency in English and the ability to teach in English will be considered an advantage. The primary language of instruction is Finnish but English is also used. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a Senior Lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6–7 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4200-5600 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
