Senior Researcher, EDUCA Education of the Future Flagship

 

The University of Jyvaskyla EDUCA Education of the Future Flagship competence cluster is currently seeking to recruit candidate to the position of SENIOR RESEARCHER for the period 1.8.2025 - 30.4.2028. 

The task is part of the Future of Education EDUCA Flagship, which aims to strengthen the research basis of educational policy decisions and experiments, increase understanding of responding to variations in learning, and enhance understanding of social and individual learning processes, the renewal of teachers' and leaders' competencies, and scalable educational technological solutions and their impact on learning, primarily during and before compulsory education. The EDUCA Flagship is a multidisciplinary center of expertise that combines theoretical and multi-method expertise in educational science, psychology, learning analytics, educational economics, and educational sociology, as well as the utilization of extensive longitudinal and registry data to address challenges in the education sector. The consortium consists of the universities of Jyväskylä, Helsinki, Turku, and Aalto. At the University of Jyväskylä, EDUCA operates in collaboration between the Faculty of Education and Psychology and the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER).

Who we are looking for

The EDUCA Senior researcher should focus on research related to at least one of the following EDUCA Flagship themes or cross-cutting education policy theme: 

  1. Assessing the impacts of educational policy reforms and interventions.  
  2. Learning variability, interaction, and support in learning contexts.  
  3. Scalable digital technologies in learning and school of the future.  
  4. Fostering competences of teachers and educational leaders in learning communities. 

The candidate is required to have a relevant doctoral degree and to demonstrate evidence of independent scientific research through publications, as well as documentation of the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching, and to supervise theses.

The position emphasizes internationally high-quality research. The applicant must have strong evidence of research in EDUCAs research areas and active research activities. When assessing merits, the applicant's national and international networking, experience and evidence of external research funding or active pursuit of it, strong methodological expertise, experience in multidisciplinary research and collaborative projects, and interest in impact-oriented collaboration with the private, public, or third sector will be considered. Strong methodological expertise, pedagogical training, thesis supervision, and development and impact work in EDUCA’s research areas are considered as assets

The duties and qualification requirements of Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines.  A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a Senior  Researcher is determined based on the task-specific demand level 5-6 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 3500-4800 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
