Senior researcher (spatial omics) permanent position in Turku, Finland

We have an opening for a senior researcher at Turku Bioscience Centre https://bioscience.fi. As an advanced core facility and research centre, we specialize in the strategic development of cutting-edge research infrastructure and provide technology services based on open access principles.

As the selected candidate, you will focus on coordination and development of core facility services, particularly in the field of spatial omics, and contribute to the research conducted within the core facilities.

Qualifications

  • PhD in life sciences or other relevant discipline
  • Postdoctoral research experience from a relevant field
  •  Proven expertise and practical experience in spatial omics technologies and handling tissue samples
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English (Finnish language skills are not required)
  •  A team player who enjoys working in an international, interdisciplinary environment
  • Strong project management skills and an organized, detail-oriented mindset

Your Tasks

  • Develop comprehensive and efficient core facility service workflows in the field of spatial omics
  • Provide consultation to scientists, assisting them in finding methods best suited for their research
  •  Engage in research projects involving spatial omics methods (in fields such as immunology, oncology, neuroscience, and drug discovery)
  • Follow developments in the field and assist in the implementation of new technologies

You will work together with several core facility teams at Turku Bioscience. Collectively, the core facilities offer access to an extensive suite of cutting-edge research equipment including 10x Genomics single-cell and spatial transcriptomics platforms, a Hyperion imaging mass cytometer, and a Bruker TimsTOF flex MALDI-2 mass spectrometer. This infrastructure represents a critical resource for dozens of research groups in both academia and industry. The core facilities are part of the Biocentre Finland network, which was recently recognized with the status of a “lighthouse infrastructure” by the Research Council of Finland. Salary

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities and will depend on the degree and qualifications of the applicant.  Salaried positions in Finland automatically include payments to a pension fund, unemployment funds, an extensive occupational healthcare, affordable sports services and even a holiday allowance. This position belong to the personnel group of teaching and research personnel and a PhD degree is a must. For a Senior Researcher the salary will be in average 3600 – 4000 eur/month.

Our selection criteria is based on the principle of finding the most qualified and suitable candidate for the work. In practice, this means that not only education, publications and working experience but also personal qualities, communication and motivation factors and other relevant criteria will be taken into account.

Duration of the contract

The start of employment is negotiable. The position is permanent and it is subject to a six-month trial period.
