Two Professors (Assistant/Associate/Full) in Mechanical Engineering
The Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku is looking for two Professors (full) or Assistant/Associate Professors (tenure track) in Mechanical Engineering. The professorships are at the Faculty of Technology in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, in the unit of Mechanical Engineering. We are aiming for a start date during the spring 2026 but we are flexible.
Who we are looking for
For the first position, candidates are expected to have research and teaching competence in design data management (CAD/CAE, PLM/PDM, ERP), digital twins, design of complex investments (e.g. ships and process plants) and efficient use of design data throughout the investment lifecycle. Knowledge across traditional engineering disciplines and expertise in artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0 will be an asset, as well as knowledge about marine or process industries.
For the second position, candidates are expected to have research and teaching competence in mechanical and logical (non chemical) process design, analysis, and improvement. Knowledge of the marine or process industry would be an asset.

The applicants may be appointed to a fixed-term associate or assistant professorship (tenure track) or to a permanent professor position (Full Professor) depending on their previous academic merits.
- For the position of Assistant Professor, we seek proactive researchers and teachers beyond their post doc phase yet still at their early academic career, and who already have a proven track record of scientific research.
- For the position of Associate Professor, we emphasize an international track record of scientific research, teaching experience and societal influence. In addition to these, we value a track record of acquiring external research funding and business collaboration.
- For the position of Full Professor we are looking for experienced and internationally distinguished experts who already have excellent publication production and success in obtaining external funding.

Salary and trial period
The salary for the post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel (YPJ) when negotiating the employment contract.
The position has a trial period of six months.

Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering is a unique combination of mechanical engineering, materials engineering and industrial engineering and management with contemporary research and teaching.
