Professor or Associate / Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Finance

Applications are hereby invited for the post of Professor or Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) in Finance at the Turku School of Economics. The position is situated at the Department of Accounting and Finance, in the subject Accounting and Finance.

The post will be filled directly as a Professor for an indefinite period or through a tenure track system first as fixed-term employment periods as Assistant / Associate Professor. An Assistant Professor first serves for a fixed term of 3-5 years and an Associate Professors for 2-4 years before being evaluated for an upgrade to become a full professor. The title and the position in the tenure track will be tailored to the qualifications and accomplishments of the successful applicant.

The Department of Accounting and Finance consists of three subjects: Accounting and Finance, Business Law, and Quantitative Methods in Management. Research and teaching in Accounting and Finance cover the areas of management accounting, financial accounting (including auditing) and finance. Accounting and Finance is also the largest subject in terms of student numbers at the Turku School of Economics. Job description

The Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor

  • conducts and supervises scientific research,
  • gives science-based education,
  • follows developments in science, and
  • participates in societal interaction and international cooperation in their field.

The subfield of the position is not restricted, but preference is given to applicants, who have strong research merits in key (main) research areas in finance. The selected candidate is expected to participate in administrative duties relevant to the position in question, to teach and supervise in the area of finance.

Who we are looking for

For the post of Professor, a researcher of high international standard is sought.

Tenure track –positions are meant for researchers who are pass the postdoc phase.  When selecting a person for the Assistant Professor phase, especially academic potential and motivation for an academic career are taken into consideration. The tenure track Associate Professor phase is intended for a high-level researcher, whose qualifications indicate substantial scientific potential. The tenure track system of the University of Turku is described in: Guidelines for the tenure track system at the UTU.

The title (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor) and more detailed content of the position will be defined later according to the merits and the scientific career of the selected candidate.  

The person appointed to the position is required to meet the eligibility requirements laid down in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure (Section 29).

However, the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position benefits from skills in Finnish language. If the appointee is not proficient in Finnish they are required to acquire an adequate level of proficiency in Finnish within three years unless otherwise agreed under specific circumstances. The university will support the appointee in acquiring the necessary Finnish language skills.

The position requires good skills in English language.

Salary and trial period

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities for teaching and research personnel.  The salary shall be determined when drawing up the employment contract.

The position is subject to a six-month trial period.
