Postdoctoral Researcher in URBAN STUDIES-project

Turku School of Economics, department of Economics opens a position of Postdoctoral Researcher for fixed-term 1.8.2025-31.7.2027 in URBAN STUDIES-project.

The post of postdoctoral researcher is positioned at the Department of Economics.  The Department of Economics conducts high-quality research in economics and belongs to the leading Finnish educators of economics at all degree levels. In the Turku School of Economics, the department is responsible for the research profile area Economic Policy and Markets.

The job starts 1.8.2025 or earlier by agreement.

Job description

The task is part of Urban Studies project, which investigates the impacts of housing supply on the vitality of urban areas. The project focuses on three main themes: the regional economic and socio-economic effects of subsidized housing production, housing-related preferences among Finns, and homeownership among immigrants. The project's research utilizes various domestic individual-level register datasets as well as building and spatial data resources. Empirical analyses performed with these datasets are both descriptive and quasi-experimental.

Task include participating in all research activities related to the project as part of the research team. This includes responsibilities for research design, data management, and econometric analysis. In addition we expect a small amount of teaching, service and administrative duties.

Who we are looking for

Requirements 

Person selected for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher shall have an appropriate doctoral degree (Economics, social sciences or engineering) completed by the end of application deadline. We require proven track record of independent high-quality scientific research related to the regional, urban, or real estate economics. Successful applicants have strong research orientation and fluency in English. Finnish language skills may be considered an advantage.

 

Desirable qualifications

Familiarity with Finnish spatial and individual level register data, as well as modern microeconometric methods, is an advantage for the position. We value experience in participating in international research groups in Urban Economics.

Salary and trial period

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The starting salary for a postdoctoral researcher is approximately €3600–4200 per month, depending on previous experience and expertise.

The position has a trial period of six months.
