Assistant or Associate professor (Tenure Track), Economics
The Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is seeking to recruit an Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure Track) in Economics starting 1 September 2027, or as soon as possible after. According to the tenure track model at the University of Jyväskylä, the position of an assistant professor is filled for a fixed term of three to five years, and the position of an associate professor for a fixed term of five years. At the end of each fixed-term assignment, an evaluation is conducted to assess the employee’s qualifications for promotion to the next level (associate professor / full professor).
The position of Assistant or Associate Professor strengthens the School of Business and Economics (JSBE) core areas of expertise in decision-making economics. In addition to the traditional micro and macroeconomic sciences, the field of economics is also responsible for the teaching of financial economics at JSBE.
Who should apply
The task of an Assistant or Associate Professor is to qualify as a Professor. The areas of responsibility are research, teaching, guidance and development tasks related to the discipline of economics. We expect the successful candidate to conduct internationally high-quality research in economics. We are looking for a person whose research field is linked to one or more of the Faculty's research focus areas (economics and economic competitiveness supporting decision-making, digital business and economy, and sustainable business and finance).
The teaching duties of an Assistant or Associate Professor include teaching, guidance and development tasks in the basic, subject and advanced courses of the field. Administrative tasks related to other academic obligations are also included in the duties of Assistant or Associate Professor. Assistant or Associate Professor supervises bachelor's and master's theses and doctoral dissertations and is expected to secure external research funding.
The eligibility requirements for the position include a suitable doctoral degree, strong evidence of high-quality scientific research, success in obtaining competitive research funding, and active international networking. In addition, applicants must demonstrate substantial teaching experience and a strong record of supervising theses We also value cooperation with business and/or public sector operators. English language skills are essential for the position. Finnish language skills are considered an advantage.
The duties and qualification requirements of an Assistant and Associate Professor are stipulated in the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Candidates are expected to have an excellent record of conducting and publishing scientific research, establishing international networks, acquiring external funding, and teaching. After signing the employment contract, a personal career plan is prepared for you. The career plan specifies the objectives, intermediate milestones and evaluation criteria of the tenure track period. Your personal career plan helps you clarify your goals, and you will receive regular feedback on your work in the initial and follow-up discussions. Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ performance following the Finnish University Salary System. The starting gross salary will be between 4200—4800 EUR/month at the assistant level and between 4800–5500 EUR/month at the associate level depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A holiday bonus is paid to all employees.

- A research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
