Senior researcher or project researcher: LifeFactFuture project / information technology

The Department of Computing at the University of Turku is looking for a fixed-term Senior Researcher or Project Researcher for the LifeFactFuture project. The work will start according to mutual agreement as soon as possible. The position is fixed-term until 30.6.2026. The position requires presence in Turku.

The LifeFactFuture project brings together world-class excellence from Finnish life science companies, technology companies and academic researchers. The goal of the project is to accelerate the adoption of digital solutions and more efficient use of data, and to make Finland the most attractive place in the world to invest in data-driven life science manufacturing. The Department of Computing is responsible for the Technology Excellence work package. The work package will investigate development practices in the regulated environment. The special emphasis is on the data architectures and AI solutions and their impact to the development practices.

The hired person will be responsible for investigating the current data architectures of life-science manufacturing environments, creating new, more agile methods for developing regulated digital solutions, and validating these methods with participating companies.

Who we are looking for

For the position we require:

  • Good knowledge of agile software development practices and data architectures
  • Good written and spoken English skills
  • Sufficient Finnish skills e.g. to communicate with the project stakeholders and conduct interviews
  • University degree in the relevant field
  • For senior researcher position: PhD on a topic relevant to the position

For the position we appreciate:

  • Previous experience in life sciences manufacturing and/or regulated manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of information systems used in the regulated manufacturing environment
  • Good knowledge of RegOps and/or DevOps practices
  • Previous experience in applying agile and/or RegOps practices in real-life development projects
  • Good programming skills
  • Previous experience in designing complex data architectures
  • Previous experience in research work especially conducting qualitative case research on software development practices

Qualifications

The candidate selected for the position of senior researcher is required to have a doctoral degree relevant for the position and the ability to do independent scientific work. 

The candidate selected for the position of project researcher is required to have a higher university degree relevant for the position. The degree must be completed by the end of the application period.

 

Salary & trial period

The salaries are determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a senior researcher the salary will be in the beginning of the employment around 3500-3700 euros/month and for a project researcher around 2400-2600 euros/month, depending on previous experience and skills. The amount of the salary is defined when the employment contract is prepared.

A six (6) month trial period applies to the position.
